Introducing Roimata Community Incorporated Society

The Roimata Community Incorporated Society (Roimata Community Inc.) is a geographically and community-based organisation. Roimata is the Christchurch neigbourhood bounded by Ensors Rd, Brougham St, Ferry Rd and Richardson Tce. Our main aim is to foster positive social connections and trust within our community. More recently we have worked to provide local street-based information relevant to the community’s response to the Canterbury earthquakes.

Over the last couple of years the Roimata Community group has undertaken numerous activities designed to foster positive social connection and trust within our community. These activities include ongoing newsletters, emails and meetings. We have a very successful gardening group; have hosted two area wide garage sale; and have completed two river clean ups for the section of the river in our area. Other activities include a history project, community research, and initiating new neighbourhood support groups. More than 150 households receive regular electronic updates about Roimata, we also periodically provide information to through mailbox drops to the wider neighbourhood, and we now have a community noticeboard in a central location..

There are a number of ways that you can use to contact someone from the Roimata Community group, or to join, or just to find out about about local activities and issues:

  • email us roimatacommunity@gmail.com to talk to someone, to join, or to request e-letter updates
  • look for a noticeboard at the Aum Foodmarket on Hopkins St
  • sign up for the Roimata residents’ only website by emailing roimatacommunity@gmail.com. This is a ‘community website’ or intranet that can be only viewed by registered Roimata community residents, and you have to request an invitation in order to join. There are a number of services on this website – you can join discussions, post events, and we also have a ‘buy, sell, swap’ community noticeboard
  • street-based discussion groups are also forming – more on these as they emerge.
